August 19, 2011

- In the wake of its announcement made in February this year that the company had completed interoperability testing and deployed LTE (Long Term Evolution) TDD (Time Division Duplex) demonstration network, Chinese telecom equipment supplier Huawei recently announced that the company delivered 110 outdoor and indoor base stations for China Mobile's demonstration network. In addition, China Mobile stated that it also completed network planning and optimization and set up 110 outdoor and indoor base stations in July 2011. Under the agreement, Huawei's deliverables for China Mobile include an end-to-end solution, comprising Huawei's Single RAN (Radio Access Network) solution and LTE TDD/FDD (Frequency-Division Duplex) dual-mode USB (Universal Serial Bus) dongle E398.

Furthermore, China Mobile also highlighted that the mobile data services, including HD (High Definition) videoconferencing, HD video monitoring, and high-speed data upload/download services, had been well demonstrated. The demonstration network is set to provide mobile services for the imminent Shenzhen Summer Universiade, with the service coverage including the main stadiums and the corresponding surrounding areas.

- China Mobile recently announced that the company entered a collaboration agreement with Nokia, under which they will jointly develop an online application store, dubbed the MM-Nokia, the Chinabyte.com reported on August 15. - While its two rivals China Mobile and China Telecom vying for the right to sell Apple's iPhone in China, China Unicom - the sole seller of Apple's iPhone in China thus far - recently has been in talks with Apple regarding the selling of the next generation iPhone, the Sina News reported on August 17. It is predicted that Apple will release the iPhone 5 on September 7 and will introduce the iCloud service at a cheaper service rate. Should China Telecom successfully sign the agreement with Apple, China Telecom will likely launch a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) version of iPhone 5 in October 2011 at the soonest, according to the same source. China Telecom has reportedly allocated 1.5 billion RMB (US$234.4 million; US$1 = 6.4 RMB) for marketing.
